We are delighted to announce that our Opening Day speaker/performer will be acclaimed actress, singer, author, activist and Ebell member Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Ms Ralph made her screen debut in the 1977 comedy film A Piece of the Action, before landing her breakthrough role as Deena Jones in the Broadway musical Dreamgirls (1981), for which she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical.

Sheryl Lee Ralph’s charitable foundation, D.I.V.A.s, fights HIV/AIDS and her creation DIVAS SIMPLY SINGING is a magical evening of song and entertainment, featuring the most talented artists in the entertainment business united to fight against the disease.  It was Ms Ralph’s work with DIVAS SIMPLY SINGING that initially drew her to join The Ebell, after she performed in our wonderful Theatre.

Sheryl Lee Ralph released her first book Redefining Diva: Life Lessons from the Original Dreamgirl in 2012.  She was awarded honorary doctorate of humane letters from Tougaloo College in 2008.

Sheryl will entertain and delight us In Person in the Main Theatre on Saturday October 2, at 12.00 noon. Prior to the performance there will be a Continental Breakfast Reception on the porch of the Theatre beginning at 11.00 a.m.  Ticket prices TBA.
