James and Deborah Fallows
Back in April 2019 we sat spellbound while James and Deborah Fallows regaled us with their tales of crisscrossing America in their single-engine plane, visiting dozens of communities, and discussing with us their subsequent book: Our Towns: A 100,000-Mile Journey Into the Heart of America. Their story has now been adapted into an HBO documentary: Our Towns. From Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Steven Ascher and Jeanne Jordan, Our Towns returns to eight towns visited by Deborah and James on their journey and looks at how these places have responded to economic setbacks to find their way forward. The film spotlights local initiatives and explores how a sense of community and common language of change can help people and towns find a different path to the future.
Our Towns is available to watch on HBO Max until Wednesday, 19 May.
