In Memoriam

May 3, 2021

Mark RichardThe Ebell is very sad to announce the passing of Mark Richard, one of our “gentlemen members” in early April.

Mark bequeathed to The Ebell his player piano, with many rolls of music.  He also donated his collection of signed photographs of members of LA’s high society during the 70’s.

We reproduce for you, below, Mark’s obituary, which appeared in the Los Angeles Times April 6-11.

Mark G Richard, died March 1, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. Mark was a beloved friend to anyone who ever met him, a bon vivant, an entertainer and a skin care and make-up guru. He was preceded in death by his adored brother, Joel Gerson. Mark was a world traveler throughout his life. He also enjoyed many cruises while entertaining his fellow passengers. His lovely tenor will be missed by many who thrilled to his renditions of all the standards. As a society photographer in the 70’s, Mark attended many high society events and photographed the beau monde – beautifully capturing the excitement and candid moments. Mark was a vibrant member of The Ebell of Los Angeles, and a treasured docent at the Virginia Robinson Gardens. He will be missed terribly by all his adoring fans and friends.

Please share your stories and remembrances of Mark by emailing markgrichard2021@gmail.com We would love to collect them for a future celebration of life.

We are also very sad to report the passing of Ramona Selby’s husband, John.  Ramona writes:

John Adolphus Selby loving and devoted husband of Ramona Sheffie Selby, Ed.D. entered eternal life on 4 March 2021. We were married over 47 years. John truly loved The Ebell and escorting me to all the events such as lunches, dinners and on the Ballroom floor with tuxedo and dancing slippers to the beautiful music.  He made many friends at Ebell also. John will continue to accompany me in spirit.
