Our local Santa Monica non-profit started 36 years ago has achieved global impact. Dr. Luce will explain how the ripples create waves.

Heal the Bay has local roots. Founded by Dorothy Green, who considered herself a homemaker, it is now under the leadership of Dr. Shelley Luce, who first volunteered during college days. Dr. Luce has been there as Heal the Bay created a small educational aquarium at the base of the Santa Monica Pier and stood up to big oil companies. Following the success of the single-use plastic bag ban, she is now leading the initiative to eliminate single-use plastic ware in takeout containers. #skipthestuff

It’s not just about the oceans… Cleaning up the bay starts with the mountains—like a trickle-down effect to protect our waterways and keep our coast clean. It takes science, education, advocacy, and committed conservationists like our own member Sharon Lawrence who serves as Chairman of Heal the Bay.
