PLANTING THE SEEDS OF KINDNESS

A celebration of what kindness to others can achieve-
RCA helping the LA community through grants and volunteerism

Each year, the Ebell Rest Cottage Association (RCA) honors its grant recipients at a spring luncheon. This year on Monday, June 6th at 11.30 am , the RCA will hold its luncheon to celebrate the 2022 RCA grantees. This year’s 16 non-profit organizations are a diverse group of deserving organizations in the Los Angeles area. The work they do under normal circumstances is difficult, but during these trying times it has been more than miraculous. This year’s theme expresses the mission and work of the grantees and The Ebell. Together they serve the LA community with kindness, support, and financial responsibility.

The RCA is the oldest philanthropic organization operating within The Ebell of Los Angeles. Their purpose is to safeguard its endowment and to identify and fund organizations that share its mission and continually work to achieve it. These organizations provide:

· homeless shelters and services for women and their children

· housing and support services for homeless pregnant women

· services for women aging out of foster care

· legal and holistic services for women who have experienced assault

· a dance program to help women who have experienced a trauma

· support services for women and their children involved in the criminal justice system

· housing and support for women who are victims of domestic violence

· help for victims of sex exploitation

· programs for women veterans to recover from trauma

· help to vulnerable seniors with basic needs

· a support center to help women dealing with cancer.

Los Angeles Center for Law and JusticeWhile sharing a lovely lunch with other Ebell members, you will hear speakers from three of our organizations. Norayma Cabot, Executive Director of first-time grantee LA Center for Law and Justice, will speak about their client-centered approach to helping survivors of assault and how they try to meet all their clients’ needs, in cluding legal and police-related issues.

WeSpark Cancer Support CenterNancy Allen, Executive Director of a returning grantee WeSPARK Cancer Support Center (and an Ebell member) will speak about the wide range of services they offer.

Good Shepherd CenterLorraine Morland, a former resident (and now a full-time staff member) of the Good Shepherd Center for Women and Children, will speak about how the Good Shepherd Center turned her life around.

The luncheon is an opportunity for Ebell members to meet representatives from all 16 organizations and to speak with them about the wonderful work they do and to show their appreciation of RCA. Help us to continue to grow and share a great afternoon.
