Ambassadors Needed for Social Services Programs

from Arden Teplow, Chair, Social Service Committee

March 1, 2021

The Social Service Committee (SSC) is a group of Ebell members who actively engage with Rest Cottage Association (RCA) grant recipients. We are a link to The Ebell for each of these well-deserving nonprofits who have been reviewed by the RCA grant committee and awarded grants due to their continuous work in improving the lives of women and children in the Los Angeles community.

The Social Service Ambassador Program maintains contact with each RCA charity throughout the year. The Ambassador connects with their grantee organization and together they initiate volunteer projects that Ebell members can engage with. Examples of past projects include collecting toiletries for teen mothers, knitting squares for blankets for cancer patients, contributing food and serving dinner at a residential shelter, and providing necessities to at-risk seniors for the holidays.

Being an Ambassador is much, much more than seeing that the Ebell funds are used for their designated purpose or doing a volunteer project. The lives that are changed because of The Ebell and your participation, is inspiring. The joy of working with these women and families is the true meaning of the expression, “you get more than you give.” You would be giving back to your community, without a large time commitment. At the same time, you become a vital member of the Ebell community, make new friends and have rewarding experiences.

The SSC meets quarterly to discuss our organizations and see if there are any issues requiring our attention. We also discuss projects and determine a month for your organization to have an “ask,” which is sent to all our members. We invite you to become an Ambassador, as we have two organizations available:

Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women and Children/Farley House offers core programs of shelter, food, case management and employment to guide homeless women to self-sufficiency. The Farley House is an education-focused transitional housing program and has 21 fully furnished apartments.

Jenesse Center Inc. restores families impacted by domestic and sexual violence, through housing, hotline, legal services, therapy, job training and child programs.
