Social Service Department

Every month, we support the Rest Cottage Association’s mission of providing assistance to a number of charities.

In 2013, the Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority counted more than 350 female veterans living on the streets of Los Angeles County.

The New Directions Oasis for Veteran Women, an RCA Charity, is a long-term transitional program for female veterans dealing with homelessness, trauma and addiction. (http://www.newdirectionsinc.org).

Anne WinklesEbell member Anne Winkles is currently Director of Human Resources at Pyles and Associates, an agency that provides Board Certified Behavior Therapists for the adult disabled population. She became interested in the Veteran population while working on a Masters research project at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

As an Ebell Social Service Ambassador, Anne forged a strong relationship with director Sharon McClendon, and together they developed programs to benefit residents.

In 2015 Anne conducted a workshop for New Directions Women on resume writing and cover letter formats, specifically geared towards submitting/following up online applications.  The program was so successful, she was asked back. This month, Anne will conduct a financial workshop on budgeting, with topics including how to set and maintain a monthly budget, how to read credit card offers with clear understanding of rates, and how to evaluate loan options.
